St John The Evangelist Tolpuddle

This growing congregation looks forward to welcoming you to our beautiful and historic church. We are open in outlook, rooted in the Gospel, thankful for the inheritance of faith into which we have entered but always looking to God's plans for the future in Tolpuddle.

Church members are very active in the life of the village and South Dorset and are keen to witness the Gospel as good news for all ages and backgrounds.

Our parish church, St John's, now has planning permission from the District Council and the Diocese for the development of Phase 3- this will involve the building of a disabled WC and creating a servery area- this will bring the church to life and encourage the use of this historic building for various activities such as concerts and lectures as well as the usual church services. The village have raised large sums of money and we have accessed every grant possible but we still have a shortfall of £15,000. Do you feel a connection to this small Dorset village and its heritage? Do you have happy memories of events in this church- perhaps a marriage or christening and do you feel you could spare some cash to help us reach our objective and save our church? If so do contact the PCC Treasurer on 01305848552 or

Save Our Church
An appeal was launched on April 16th 2011 to raise a sum in excess of £150,000 for the repair and refurbishment of our ancient church. Much of the work was essential to make it a safe, dry environment so that we could welcome one and all and create a further facility for our village. We have now completed Phase 1 and Phase 2, having raised over £70,000 through grants from various bodies, including Dorset Historic Churches Trust and Viridor and also through a variety of fund raising initiatives.
Phase 3 will endeavour to make the church more inclusive and plans are currently being drawn up to remove some pews. This will enable us to incorporate a servery, disabled W.C. and more comfortable flexible seating.
